All About Emissions
- Plug-in cars are much cleaner than gasoline or diesel cars even accounting for pollution from power plants. And as we add more solar and wind, both the electrical grid and plug-in cars get cleaner, while gas cars just get dirtier. See an overview of well-to-wheels emissions data at http://www.pluginamerica.org/images/EmissionsSummary.pdf
- According to the Power Content Label (see http://www.energy.ca.gov/consumer/power_content_label.html for a description) published by PG & E, only 2% of the electricity provided on the power grid in the San Francisco Bay Area is generated by burning coal, the most polluting energy source. Fifty per cent of the Bay Area's electricity is produced from sources that emit no carbon. Information on the source of electricity for the Bay Area can be found in the Power Mix section of this PG & E web page :http://www.pge.com/customer_service/bill_inserts/2007/nov.html
