Anne Heche in “stable condition” after violent car accident in Los Angeles

Actress Anne Heche is in stable condition after being involved in a violent car crash Friday that damaged a Los Angeles home, her rep confirmed to ABC News.

The Los Angeles Police Department also confirmed Saturday that Heche, 53, was the driver of the solo vehicle crash.

LAPD sources told ABC News they suspect Heche was driving at excessive speed when the accident happened.

Police are investigating whether drugs or alcohol could have been involved, which is normal in such an accident, sources said. The LAPD was unable to speak with Heche at the hospital due to his condition, sources said.

“Anne is currently in stable condition,” her rep said in a statement to ABC News on Saturday. “His family and friends ask for your thoughts and prayers and respect his privacy during this difficult time.”

According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, a driver crashed into a two-story home in the Mar Vista neighborhood around noon Friday, “causing structural compromise and igniting a heavy fire.” They rescued a woman found in the car, who was taken to an area hospital in critical condition, the LAFD said.

Nearly 60 firefighters responded to extinguish “stubborn flames inside the heavily damaged structure,” the department said.

There were no passengers in the car and no other injuries were reported, the LAFD said. The department did not confirm whether Heche was the driver, citing medical confidentiality laws.

DMV records and law enforcement sources confirmed that the vehicle involved in the accident and fire was registered in Heche. The LAPD’s West Traffic Division is investigating.

Authorities are also investigating an alleged hit-and-run prior to the fire accident. Police told ABC News no arrests have been made at this time.
