Charging electric cars on demand at consumers’ doorstep

Owning an electric car comes with a lifestyle change from filling the car up in five minutes to spending around 60 minutes charging an electric car and finding nearby charging stations.

Hopcharge has developed an on-demand door-to-door charging solution to alleviate the many problems faced by electric car owners in densely populated subways. The company will allow electric car owners to order the charging service at their doorstep, whether it is their home, office, movie theaters or any other location. The company says it takes an average of 36 minutes to charge the electric car, depending on the type of vehicle.

“We built custom hardware with a high-power battery and charger, just like the chargers you’ll find in quick-charge stations. The customized equipment is then installed inside the CNG vans to add mobility and allow the flexibility to recharge on demand at any location, ”he added.

Service reservations

Users can book charging through the Android / iOS app, and Hopcharge e-Pod (energy pod) with compatible charger arrives on the electric vehicle at a stipulated time when the user’s electric vehicle is idle and thus allows to save time. The company sees Hopcharge as an addition to existing fixed infrastructure rather than a replacement.

Charging service will be priced somewhere between gasoline charges and slow charge EVs costs. “We aim to keep it below 50-60% of the cost per mile of gasoline, but 20-30% more than slow charging,” said Arjun Singh, founder of Hopcharge.

Also, speaking of the need for such chargers, said Singh, living in densely populated cities requires a large electrical load to serve a particular geographic area which is limited by the local transformer, substation, main stations, etc. . in these companies would mean an increase in the electrical load on the company’s transformers and create a need for expensive infrastructure upgrades. All of this makes access to electricity more and more difficult, expensive and unreliable. Hopcharge technology solves this problem by bringing modular, mobile, connected and distributed energy storage systems to a city.

“If you live in a vertical skyscraper, getting a charger in your condo for your car can be very difficult. A society is built around a fixed load transformer. Now imagine everyone in the 700 flat condo asking for a dedicated charger in their parking lot. This will change the load demand in the company and force them to upgrade the transformer. Hopcharge eliminates the need to do this, ”Singh added.

Global expansion goals

With eyes set on building a global product, Hopcharge’s charging solution has been made compatible with all global charging protocols. The Indian company also has a strategic presence in Japan and is a member of the global fast charging technology organization CHAdeMO.

“As more OEMs like Tesla enter India, providing electric vehicle users with convenience and charging options, which is what we strongly believe, will lead to exponential adoption of electric vehicles, which will help the ambitious vision of the Indian government to achieve energy independence and its goal. 30% vehicle electrification by 2030, ”Singh said.
