Fisker would make an electric vehicle for less than $30,000

As we await the arrival of the all-new Fisker Ocean SUV later this year, the new start-up electric automaker has opened reservations for its second electric vehicle. The PEAR (Personal Electric Automotive Revolution) is expected to arrive in 2024. The exciting part of this news is that the PEAR will start at $29,900, and that’s before any incentives or taxes.

A starting price like that would make the next PEAR one of the most affordable electric vehicles available in the United States if it were sold today. It would still be a bargain as a $30,000 EV in 2024. With $7,500 in US federal EV tax credits, it could be available to many at just $22,400.

Fisker’s story

Fisker Inc. got its start as Fisker Automotive in 2007. The American electric vehicle manufacturer manufactured and sold luxury plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles. Shortly after the company launched, Fisker produced the Fisker Karma plug-in hybrid sports car. Unfortunately, the automaker had battery issues, a legal battle with Tesla, and Hurricane Sandy. The company went bankrupt and closed in 2014.

The rights to Fisker Karma were sold to Wanxiang, which took those assets and started a new company called Karma Automotive. This led to the Karma Revero plug-in hybrid car based on the Fisker Karma.

Company founder Henrik Fisker retained the Fisker logo and trademarks. Fisker Inc. was launched in 2016, and since it had no rights to its previous work, it developed new electrical concepts and models. The Fisker Orbit was one of them, as a self-driving EV shuttle popular in airports, cities and campuses.

Another is the upcoming Fisker Ocean, an EV luxury compact SUV that will debut later this year. The company also develops the Emotion luxury sports car and the Alaska pickup truck.

As an agile urban electric vehicle, the Fisker PEAR is focused on the latest innovative technologies and sustainability, according to InsideEVs. The automaker explains that the compact electric vehicle offers a sporty driving experience. It is digitally connected with strategic storage solutions and intuitive in-cab controls.

With the American push towards electric vehicles, the PEAR has the potential to be hugely popular. With such an attractive price, it could go a long way to dispel the idea that electric vehicles are too expensive for the average American. At this point, the price of many electric vehicles is beyond the household budget of many American families.

Fisker has subcontracted production of the Ocean to Magna-Steyr. However, with the PEAR, Fisker partners with Foxconn for its production. The PEAR will be manufactured in Ohio with a target of 250,000 units produced annually.

Is Fisker a serious competitor for Tesla?

Most automakers have joined the US government in promoting electric vehicles to reduce the dangerous effects of climate change. However, consumers are more interested in these new electric vehicles due to their bold new designs and exciting performance. By all accounts, the Fisker PEAR will not only have that exciting acceleration and performance, but it will also be practical, spacious and packed with cutting-edge technology at an unbeatable price.

Driven by growing demand, the automaker has opened reservations for the new PEAR. For a refundable reservation of $250, consumers can reserve their place in line for one of these new affordable electric vehicles. If you want to reserve two PEARS, the second reservation will only cost you $100.

Fisker explains that the new PEAR will offer the latest technology in an affordable and beautifully designed “urban mobility device”. He says it’s an exciting vehicle at an exciting time for the company expanding its lineup.
