San Francisco: Tesla, the electric vehicle company owned by Elon Musk, is reportedly investigating executive Omead Afshar, the official responsible for overseeing the construction and production of Giga Texas, as part of an internal investigation.
The internal investigation centers on the executive’s role in a plan to purchase hard-to-obtain construction materials. These materials, according to the report, have been identified as suspect, citing Bloomberg, Teslarati reported.
Unidentified sources said Tesla had already fired some employees as part of the investigation. They also said Tesla plans to part ways with the executive most likely through a furlough.
The report notes that the investigation was led by Tesla’s acting chief legal officer, David Searle. The goal is to determine whether or not a special type of glass should be used by Musk for personal purposes.
Currently, global supply chain disruptions have made this specific glass difficult to secure. The article noted that Tesla’s reputation made it easier for them to obtain high-demand materials.
The report also states that Afshar requested the creation of the glass purchase order and said it was a secret project.
Meanwhile, Tesla recently laid off 229 annotation employees from its Autopilot team and closed one of its offices in the United States.
