The 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E is one of the best competitors of electric vehicles thanks to its extended range

Ford sparked all the fuss with the launch of a “Mustang” that wasn’t a sports car or a V8. But despite the backlash, the Ford Mustang Mach-E has managed to have a pretty gradual upgrade over the past 2 years. And now with 2022 MY he is finally starting to fill in the boxes. The major update for the 2022 Mustang Mach-E is the increase in battery capacity, which will lead to improved range figures.

The 2021 Mustang Mach-E was well-equipped in terms of technology and comfort, but lagged behind in practical use compared to the Tesla Model X. Youtuber Marques Brownlee pitted the Mach-E against the Tesla Model S Plaid on a 1000 mile road trip, as well as an old fashioned gasoline Audi Q5. The range gap was incredibly huge between EVs (enough to cause range anxiety), and the charging infrastructure for Ford was also not something to be proud of.

Pleasantly, Ford is new to this platform, and some trouble is expected, which is why the 2022 Mustang Mach-E is a preview of more good things to come. The improved autonomy has yet to be officially announced and doesn’t expect a surprising jump, but an increase is also a good thing. Performance and design language remain unchanged for the 2022 Mustang Mach-E. The major update for 2022MY comes in the form of bigger batteries and longer range. This is a crucial update since the latest MY was rated quite poorly by its rivals in terms of battery life. The bump is minor, but an improvement over last year.

Apart from that, the other major change comes in the form of the Ford Mustang Mach-E Ice White Edition 2022, which is an optional all-white appearance package. This is a throwback to the 1993 Triple White Fox-body characteristic of the Mustang that is sure to end up being a future classic. It was in 28 years that Ford offered a white on white Mustang.

Does the 2022 Mustang Mach-E add more performance?

While the battery capacity has increased, Ford has not increased the performance of the 2022 Mustang Mach-E. Base trims continue to produce between 266 and 317 horsepower and 346 – 428 lb-ft of torque. For less than $ 50,000 without incentives, that’s an impressive performance.

But things get serious for the pumped up GT and GT Performance trims that pump 480 horsepower and a whopping 634 lb-ft of torque to all four wheels. The GT range can do 0-60 MPH in less than 4 seconds. Performances are sorted for Mach-E.

The Mustang Mach-E has increased its battery size for 2022. The standard range now has a 70 kWh battery pack (up from 68 kWh last year), and the extended range now has a 91 kWh pack. kWh (compared to 88 kWh last year). While official figures for the practice have yet to be released, a Mach-E forum member has calculated what the EPA’s speculated figures might be.

Those in the standard lineup saw a bump of 230 miles to 237 miles in RWD mode, and 211 miles to 217 miles for AWD models. As for extended range models, RWD models could go from 300 miles to 310 miles and all-wheel drive models from 270 miles to 279 miles. Finally, the California Route 1 RWD could go from 305 miles to 315 miles.

If speculative numbers are factored in, the most efficient 2022 Mustang Mach-E model will have a range of 315 miles. The bump is light but the electric stang is close to being a threat to the competition. The Audi e-tron is far from competitive here as it has a maximum range of just 212 miles.

The 2022 Jaguar I-Pace gets a commendable leap and range now stands at 292 miles on the WTLP cycle. The Volvo XC50 Recharge also stays in the lower bandwidth with a maximum range of just 208 miles, making it the least efficient here. But Tesla still holds the podium with the Model X which has an impressive range of 360 miles for the standard offering. Ford has a long way to go.

The 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E is online and can be ordered immediately. It starts with an MSRP of $ 42,895 which remains unchanged from last year. Federal tax credits of $ 7,500 will further sweeten the matter. The GT sits on the expensive side of things with an MSRP of $ 59,995. For a crossover with a Stang that does 0-60 MPH in 3.5 seconds, there’s no remorse in paying $ 60,000!
