Tritium supplied RT175-S fast chargers to BMA for the project. With an output of 175 kW, the RT175-S can deliver 171 kilometers (106 miles) of range to an electric vehicle in as little as 10 minutes. This rugged charger is liquid cooled with a sealed, IP65 rated housing, protecting power electronics from dirt and dust on mine sites.

“As the only provider of IP65 rated liquid-cooled electric vehicle charging technology, Tritium is uniquely positioned to support the mining industry’s transition to electric vehicles through innovative charging technology that is sealed to protect against sediment, dust and moisture, and designed to operate in harsh conditions. conditions, ”said Jane Hunter, CEO of Tritium. “Tritium chargers have been operating in the field since 2013 in a range of conditions, from the Nordic countries to Australia. In this industry, it is a long history of experience that has given Miller Technology the confidence to choose Tritium to partner with them in this operational change in support of their goal of reducing emissions at their sites.

Tritium has made modifications to the already rugged RT175-S rapid charger to meet and exceed Australian mining standards. Changes made during this project influenced the design of Tritium’s latest filler products with inclusions such as additional safety standards and filtration capabilities.

Miller Technology has supplied BMA with its all-new all-electric light vehicle, the Relay. Capable of charging in as little as 20 minutes for a typical 10-hour mining shift, the Relay can add up to two hours of extra runtime with regenerative braking technology. Miller Technology has invested over a decade in relay research and development, focusing on serviceability, modularity with rugged design and construction.

“Relay’s technology creates a revolutionary vehicle with its unique battery management system and cooling and temperature monitoring capabilities. As a result, the Relay is the most environmentally friendly, safe and efficient light mining vehicle in its class available today, ”said Paul Summers, chief engineer of battery-electric vehicles at Miller Technology. . “We are proud to have provided BMA with the industry’s most advanced solution for sustainable mining in partnership with Tritium and its industry-leading rapid charge technology.

The Relay, which was designed entirely in-house, can carry a payload of two tonnes and provides a torque of 1,550 newton-meters (“Nm”). It uses an exceptionally efficient and robust rechargeable energy storage system (“RESS”). The relay charges via the Type 2 Combined Charging System (“CCS”), one of the most convenient and widely adopted charging standards.

About Miller Technology

Miller Technology has been designing and producing vehicles for the mining industry for over 40 years, since its inception in 1979. Over the past decades, the main business has focused on modifying the Toyota Land Cruiser for specific mining applications, such as underground scissor lifts, personnel carriers, ANFO explosives. Chargers, etc.

In 2011, it was realized that new technologies were needed to provide a cleaner and safer environment for miners and the environment in general. Miller Technology began to explore these new technologies, initially pursuing battery-electric vehicle technology, and the 10 years of exhaustive development that followed resulted in the Relay BEV, as well as an underground electric grader using the same powertrain. than the Relay.

The latest technologies continue to be explored with a current engagement in fully autonomous electric vehicles for mining and investigations into the development of hydrogen fuel cells as a power source.
